Our story

It started with a simple, frustrating question.

Auckland Bookkeepers was founded by our director, Duncan Barr, after seeing too many friends and colleagues – all hardworking small business owners – struggle with the same problem.

The question was: "Why are we paying for downtime?"

He realised the traditional model was broken for small businesses. You could hire an accounts person, but then you’d be paying for the hours they spend waiting for the next task, not to mention their leave, ACC, and everything else. The alternative was doing it yourself, usually late at night after you’ve already put in a full day's work.

There had to be a better way. And that’s why we exist.

We built Auckland Bookkeepers to be the accounts department you wish you had: expert, efficient, and only there when you need us. You get a dedicated team of local, straight-talking Xero specialists for a simple, fixed monthly fee. No paying for downtime, no overseas outsourcing – just real Kiwis helping other Kiwis succeed.
